The Florida sun was shining bright on February 15th as students, families, and staff from Crimson Global Academy (CGA) gathered at the iconic Gator Mouth entrance of Gatorland.
The air buzzed with excitement—not just from the prospect of seeing alligators up close, but from the thrill of meeting classmates and teachers in person for the very first time.
For many, the day marked a long-awaited transition from the digital world to the real one.
Students who had spent months or even years learning together through screens were now standing side by side, laughing, chatting, and forming bonds that felt like they had always been there.
Despite never having met face-to-face, the thirty attendees instantly fell into conversation, as if picking up right where they had left off in an online class.
Parents introduced themselves, exchanging stories about their children’s experiences at CGA, while students quickly huddled into groups, the usual first-meeting awkwardness nowhere to be found.
“This meet-up was significant for numerous reasons. It provided an opportunity for us to bond in a relaxed environment, and I observed the students forming friendships with minimal assistance from us.” — Stephanie Todaro, CGA USA Academic Dean
Stephanie had been looking forward to this moment—not just to meet her students in person but to see the connections they had built online truly come to life.
And from the very first greetings, it was clear: CGA’s community wasn’t just strong in the virtual world. It was thriving in person, too.
Once inside, the adventure began. Gatorland, a staple of Florida’s wildlife scene, offered plenty of jaw-dropping experiences.
The groups took on the Swamp Walk, navigating the winding boardwalks through Florida’s lush wetlands, where the sounds of rustling leaves and distant alligator bellows added to the experience.
They watched in amazement as massive alligators launched themselves out of the water at the Gator Jumparoo Show, snapping at the dangling treats with incredible speed.
Some students took on the Croc Rock Wall challenge, pushing themselves to reach the top before ziplining over the alligator-infested waters below. The adventure mixed with the joy of shared experiences made every moment more memorable.
“The best part of the meet-up was getting to explore Gatorland together and sharing laughs along the way. Seeing the alligators up close was incredible, but what made it even better was experiencing it with friends from CGA.” — Sofia P., CGA Student
For other students, the highlight wasn’t only the attractions, but the opportunity to talk, laugh, and connect beyond the classroom.
“Honestly, my favorite part of the meet-up was talking to everyone at the beginning, getting to know them and their lives outside of school. I don’t connect with many people outside of classes, but I do text with a couple of people and we plan to get together again at some point.” — Eliza M., CGA Student
Throughout the day, it became evident that CGA really is a connected community.
Conversations flowed easily, friendships deepened, and the bond between students, teachers, and parents became even more tangible.
“After more than a decade in online education, I am always heartened by how the connections students build online only grow stronger when they meet in person.
The moment students see their peers, conversations spark, and soon, everyone is talking—students, parents, and faculty alike.” — Brittanie Bates, Head of School, USA
Even as lunchtime came and went, the group stayed, eager to explore more, reluctant to part ways.
Parents exchanged numbers, students made plans for future meet-ups, and staff soaked in the joy of seeing their CGA family together, outside of the screen.
“I do believe that CGA has a strong community as an online school because at the meet-up, it seemed as if everyone had met in person many times before. If it feels like that, the CGA community is very strong.” — Eliza M., CGA Student
As the day came to a close, one thing was clear—this first CGA USA meet-up was a success.
What began in an online classroom has grown into something much more, where friendships are real, connections are meaningful, and the support from teachers and families makes all the difference.
In these moments, we as educators and mentors become the “extra adults” along to observe the in person event live the supporting cast in their story.
We’re there to encourage, to guide, and to create space for them to focus on each other, deepening friendships that will last a lifetime. It’s a powerful reminder that online education isn’t just about learning, it’s about belonging. — Brittanie Bates, Head of School, USA
A huge thank you to our students for showing up ready to connect, and to our teachers who traveled from their homes to make this gathering possible. Your dedication and enthusiasm are what make CGA so special.
“The students, along with faculty and staff, enjoyed the various activities offered by the park. I eagerly look forward to the next meet-up and hope to connect with even more students and families.” — Stephanie Todaro, CGA USA Academic Dean
At CGA, students don’t only attend an online school—they join a connected, supportive, and real community.
Whether in the virtual classroom or at in-person meet-ups like this, CGA students build friendships, grow academically, and find their place in a global network of peers.
Give your child the opportunity to be part of something bigger.
