Leading a Global School Community: 2025 CGA Student Leaders

At CGA, students come together from various time zones, cultural backgrounds, and life circumstances, making our learning environment unique compared to traditional brick-and-mortar schools. The role of student leaders is essential in bridging these differences and fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for their peers.

As we welcome the 2025 academic year across all CGA campuses, we are excited to introduce a new group of student leaders who will play a crucial role in supporting their classmates and building a stronger, more connected CGA student community. These leaders will provide opportunities for students to make meaningful contributions to the CGA community while also developing essential skills that will benefit them in their academic journeys and future careers.

Fostering Community and Sense of Belonging

This year, Konoka has stepped up to become the Co-Captain of the Mandela House at the US Diploma Pathway Campus. For her, this role means expanding her contributions to the school community.

"I aim to provide stronger peer support to enhance motivation within our student body while creating more opportunities for social engagement.”

Emma, the Head Girl of Aoraki, was inspired to pursue student leadership by the impactful work of previous leaders and her desire to contribute to the school’s vibrant culture. Her extensive involvement in CGA’s arts programs over the years has made her a recognisable presence in the community, and she looks forward to continuing her artistic contributions in her leadership role.

“Fostering a welcoming and inclusive social community at CGA is a key goal of mine, achieved by hosting events that engage all students while also promoting the arts through assemblies and events. My advice to students is to not be afraid to put yourself out there—find a club that interests you and join it.”

For Kabo, the Head Student of Greenwich Campus, her vision for the 2024/25 academic year is to create a more social and interactive campus by organising social events for students while also ensuring academic success through the enhancement of existing academic resources.

“Since joining CGA, it has become a place where I can not only excel academically but also have my eyes opened to new horizons and opportunities I didn’t even know were available to me, allowing me to realise my dreams.”

Setting Goals and Student Engagement

As an online school with students across various time zones, CGA student leaders play a key role in encouraging fellow students to get more involved. They highlight the value of participation, share opportunities, and foster a sense of belonging. Their efforts ensure that every student, regardless of their time zone, has the chance to contribute and thrive in the CGA community.

Shin, who took 1:1 student and teacher classes last year for greater flexibility, did not notice as many opportunities to interact with fellow students compared to joining online group classes. Now enrolled in the US Diploma and AP curriculum in live classes, he serves as the Extracurricular and Leadership Prefect of Mandela House. He aims to create numerous opportunities for students to communicate and interact. “I noticed that some students feel isolated because they are not in a physical school and do not get to talk with their classmates physically. I strongly want to encourage more interaction among students to build strong bonds,” he says.

Aoraki Creative Arts Prefect Leela adds, “Students who study online may feel isolated. It is a rewarding experience for me to reach out to these students and create meaningful opportunities for social interaction.

”I want to help students thrive academically and socially. The community CGA hosts is incredibly diverse and vibrant. I want to help students thrive both academically and socially.”

- Sophie, Head of Greenwich’s Hawking House

For Noor, the Deputy Head of Hawking House at Greenwich Campus, celebrating and sharing the diversity at CGA fuels her passion for being a student leader. “We have students from over 60 countries, representing a wide range of cultural and religious backgrounds. I believe that learning about different cultures can truly shape the way we think and interact with others,” she explains.

Likewise, Emaan, the Cultural Prefect for the US Campus, aims to organise cultural events that highlight CGA’s diversity and bring students together. “I also aim to encourage greater participation and make cultural appreciation a central part of our school experience,” she shares.

For Aoraki Junior School Prefect Jenson, being a student leader means being part of a wider community that encourages individuals to become the best versions of themselves. Fellow Junior Prefect Ryota reflected on the challenges of adapting to online learning, noting that thriving in this environment can be even harder.

“This year, I want to help students not only feel comfortable but also confident here at CGA. Being a student leader is like being an influencer; one should strive to set a positive example for the next generation of learners.”

- Ryota, Junior School Prefect - Aoraki campus

Cultural and Community Prefect Kiani, encourages students to reach out and fully utilise the opportunities available to them. “I feel drawn to the compelling qualities that surround me at CGA. We can all learn from each other and celebrate our differences in backgrounds and achievements across all areas. There’s no harm in trying, as there is always something to be learned.

These student leaders exemplify the global spirit of CGA, inspiring a year of meaningful connections, collaboration, and innovation. As they take the lead, we eagerly anticipate the diverse initiatives, events, and opportunities they will create—fostering a dynamic and thriving community that supports every student.
