Helping your child build a strong foundation for their educational years ahead is important. The Pre-International GCSE (Pre-IGCSE) programme is designed for students in Years 8-10 (or Grades 7-9), providing them with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in the IGCSE and higher education.
This blog explores the structure of Pre-IGCSE, subjects available in the courses, and benefits of the taking this programme, highlighting why it is an excellent choice for motivated and curious young students.
The Pre-International GCSE (Pre-IGCSE) is a preparatory programme for students in lower high school grades, typically Years 8-10 (or Grades 7-9), generally aged 12-14.
It serves as an advanced middle school curriculum designed to prepare students for the more challenging International GCSEs (IGCSE). This programme establishes a strong academic foundation in key subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, and more, ensuring students are well-prepared for the IGCSE. The curriculum follows Pearson’s Lower Secondary standards, recognised globally for their quality and rigour.
The Pre-IGCSE programme has two stages:
Stage 1 serves as the foundation for Stage 2 which builds on more advanced content. Students can enrol full-time in Stage 2, taking 5-6 subjects, or part-time in both stages, taking 1-2 subjects at a time. The programme includes regular assessments to gauge and improve students' understanding, culminating in an internal exam.
The Pre-IGCSE programme at CGA offers a range of subjects to give students a comprehensive introduction to various fields of study:
Pre-IG Science: This course is ideal for students to get a 'taster' of each of the three disciplines (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and to help them choose which subject(s) to do for their International GCSE.
Pre-IG English: Students gain experience with styles of language, language techniques, and grammar. They practise formal and creative writing as well. Students will also focus on academic analysis of literature texts, and writing literary essays.
Pre-IG Maths: The aim of this course is to prepare students for the IGCSE Math course, and beyond, to AS and A2 Level Math courses.
Pre-IG Computer Science: The purpose of this course is to give students an introduction into the world of computer science and coding.
Pre-IG Social Science: The goal of this course is to equip young people with the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthily, safely, productively and responsibly.
Pre-IG Global Citizenship: This course is designed to fuel discussion, inspire collaboration and develop students' ability to think critically about a wide range of global issues.
Pre-IG Commerce: This course aims to prepare students for business and economics within the commercial sector that they might take at IGCSE level.
The Pre-IGCSE programme is ideal for middle school students aged 10-13 years who are keen to learn and want to study an advanced level of education that prepares them for an international curriculum. It’s perfect for students who are motivated, curious, and ready to tackle more challenging material than what is typically offered at their age level. This programme is especially helpful for students aiming for high academic achievements early on.
At CGA, we offer the Pre-IGCSE programme online, which features small class sizes, personalised attention and a collaborative learning environment. Students taking Pre-IGCSE with CGA benefit from engaging and interactive lessons delivered by experienced teachers who specialise in online education.
By enrolling in CGA's Pre-IGCSE programme, students join a global community of learners, gaining exposure to diverse perspectives and building a network of international peers.
For students looking to build a strong academic foundation and transition into more advanced studies, the Pre-International GCSE (Pre-IGCSE) offers an advantageous starting point. Here's why enrolling in Pre-IGCSE can be the top choice for ambitious students:
The Pre-IGCSE programme, much like the IGCSE, includes rigorous assessments to ensure high academic standards. These assessments prepare students for future academic challenges. The IGCSE is widely recognised by universities and employers around the world, including top institutions in the UK.
Throughout the Pre-IGCSE programme, students are assessed on a continuous basis through homework, class participation, and periodic tests. This continuous assessment model helps in identifying areas where students may need additional support and allows for more personalized learning experiences.
At the end of each stage of the Pre-IGCSE programme, students take internal exams that comprehensively cover the material studied. These exams are designed to prepare students for the rigorous testing environment of the IGCSEs, familiarising them with the types of questions and the level of difficulty they can expect.
Enrolling in the Pre-IGCSE programme at CGA is a straightforward process designed to ensure that prospective students and their families have all the information and support they need.
