Parents often express concerns about how online schooling can meet their child's social needs. At Crimson Global Academy, we believe that socialization is a crucial aspect of a well-rounded education, even in an online environment. In this blog, we’ll introduce 8 practical ways students can socialize with their peers and make the most out of their online learning experience.
Student clubs are designed for students to connect with like-minded peers who share similar interests. At CGA, we offer a diverse range of student-led clubs, where students take the role of organizing and running, as well as school-led clubs that provide additional support and help students develop valuable skills.
These clubs are formed by students and provide a way for them to collaborate with others globally on a subject of interest. If you don’t find something you like, create it! Students at CGA are always encouraged to create their own club and explore areas of interest with their peers. Some include:
Roblox Club: Club members learn how to build and code robots. Top members of the team will be invited to represent CGA at global competitions.
Ideas Club: This club allows students to test their entrepreneurial skills and make suggestions about how we can improve at CGA - teaching styles, activities and social ideas.
TEDx Club: Peers join together to organize the first CGA TEDx and contribute to all parts of the process - from topic selection to understanding the TEDx group
Our school-led clubs follow a subscription method and are led by a CGA teacher. These are focused on developing young leaders Some include:
Web development club: The Web Development Club allows students with an interest in website design and coding to further learn how to develop their own websites and if they want to publish the finished product.
Economics club: For students interested in current affairs, understanding the news, and in pursuing degrees in social sciences, understanding and discussing the economics underlying all of these factors is crucial.
3d Game Development Club: The 3D Game Development Club allows students with an interest in gaming to further learn how to develop their own video games and apps.
As an online student, actively engaging in class discussions is a key way for them to connect with their peers as it allows for the start of conversations to form. By actively participating in discussions, students are not only able to contribute their ideas and perspectives but also have the opportunity to listen to and learn from their classmates - and even get to know them a little.
Sparking up casual conversations during lunch breaks is a great opportunity for students to engage with their peers in a relaxed and informal setting online. Our school offers a range of communication platforms, including Gmail, Slack, and Cami, that make it easy for students to connect with one another or their teachers.
This time can be useful to share experiences on a particular class or subject, exchange insights, or simply get to know one another. Creating these casual conversations can be little stepping stones to getting to know each other and developing deeper friendships.
Students should remember that everyone in the online learning environment is there to socialize and make connections, just like them. Believing in themselves and approaching conversations with a positive mindset is key.
Chances are if they're both in Math Club, then they both love Math! They'll already have something in common which they can use as common ground for initiating conversation. Authenticity is crucial in building genuine relationships.
Everyone loves the chance to talk about themselves and share their thoughts and ideas. So it’s important to ask open-ended questions that encourage peers to reply with detailed responses. For example, ask about their goals, “What do you plan to do once you finish high school?” or “What do you want to do as a profession? And why?”.
These questions will allow them to further open up about their plans and aspirations, allowing for deeper conversations, while also providing an opportunity to learn more about each other.
Who said everything had to be online? At CGA, we offer students the opportunity to connect in person. Whether it's our CGA social day or regular study hubs in our dedicated offices, students have the opportunity to meet their peers face-to-face and engage in collaborative activities. From fun-filled events that bring everyone together to focused study sessions, these in-person gatherings provide a unique platform for students to connect and bond with their peers.
We take great pride in hosting CGA Social Days—an exceptional opportunity for our students to come together and connect. It offers a unique chance for our students to experience the vibrant atmosphere of our school firsthand. It is a day where you can join other CGA students, connect with like-minded peers, and be inspired by an incredible lineup of motivational speakers.
At CGA you have access to study hubs where you can meet and learn with classmates. Through Crimson Education-owned facilities and partnerships with institutes, CGA students have access to study spaces, meeting rooms, science laboratories, social activities (such as theater, dance and sports facilities) and examination centers.
Everyone likes to be heard. By giving their full attention and listening carefully students can demonstrate genuine interest in what others have to say. This conveys that their thoughts and feelings are important and encourages open and meaningful conversations to flow. By being present in the moment and refraining from interrupting, students can show that they value and appreciate the input of their peers.
In an online school, paying attention to non-verbal cues is essential for effective communication as it can sometimes be challenging to read body language through the camera. This is why maintaining eye contact is a powerful way to show attentiveness as it lets others know that their words are being heard. Smiling and using appropriate facial expressions can create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, making conversations more comfortable and enjoyable for everyone involved.
