The Journey to Chess Grandmaster

Abhi's dedication and passion for chess quickly became evident when he began competing in tournaments at the age of five, breaking several national records along the way. By the age of ten, he had become the youngest International Master in the world, paving the way for his historic Grandmaster achievement.

The journey to becoming a Grandmaster was not without its challenges, as the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted chess tournament schedules. Undeterred, Abhi and his father made the bold decision to travel to Hungary in 2021.

After three months of intense competition, Abhi's perseverance paid off, and he emerged victorious, becoming the youngest Grandmaster in the world on June 30, 2021, at the Vezerkepzo GM Mix tournament in Budapest, Hungary.

Now at age 15, Abhi shares that his family’s support has been crucial, especially as he navigates the demands of his academic and chess activities. As a student at CGA, an online private school for athletes and performers, he has found the flexibility he needs for both.

"CGA has been a lifesaver," Abhi says. "*I get to play tournaments as well as keep up with my schoolwork. The *teachers are amazing, and the classes are structured in a way that allows me to balance my chess training and studies."

In addition to his academic, extracurricular, and chess commitments, Abhi has published an autobiography titled “The Youngest Chess Grandmaster in the World: The Chess Adventures of Abhimanyu Mishra, Aged 12 Years, 4 Months, and 25 Days,” which details his journey to becoming a Grandmaster.
