Teacher Spotlight: Stephanie Todaro

This week we highlight Stephanie Todaro, an exceptional educator, who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our CGA community. Stephanie holds a Master of Education in Science from the University of Pittsburgh, and her passion for chemistry led her to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Allegheny College. With a remarkable 16-year teaching career, she has specialized in Chemistry and AP Chemistry, making a significant impact in independent schools.

Since joining CGA in the fall of 2022, Stephanie has served as an invaluable member of our team, taking on the roles of an AP Chemistry instructor and Head of the Science Department. Currently, she also holds the position of Academic Dean for the US branch, contributing to the academic excellence and growth of our school.

Q & A with Stephanie Todaro

Q: Why did you join CGA?

CGA stood out to me as it had a familiar feeling of teaching in brick and mortar schools.  I felt a sense of community between the students and teachers.  Teaching is my passion and online teaching gave me the ability to be more available for my own children as well as continue to educate students on a subject I love.

Q: What is your philosophy or approach to education?

I believe that any child has the ability to succeed in their education.  It is our job as educators to find ways to allow them this success.  Teachers have many different tools at their disposal and we must find the tools that work best for our students.

Q: How do you get your students to engage?

On the first day of class it is important to build rapport with your students.  Once the rapport is established, engaging the students is easy.  Simply starting a class with a quick poll on their favorite ice cream flavor engages even the most shy students.

Q: What is the main difference between CGA and a traditional school?

Freedom.  CGA gives students the ability to be part-time or full-time.  As a part-time student, they are given the opportunity to further their studies outside of their brick and mortar school.  As a full-time student, they have the flexibility during the week to engage in extracurricular activities they may be interested in while not having to give up their education.

Q: What is your most memorable moment at CGA?

My most memorable moments are meeting teachers and students from around the world.  I love listening to their stories.

Q: Do you have any advice for your students? Is there something you wish you knew when you were at that age?

How to set up a study calendar.  Studying small portions of material over a longer period of time is more effective than cramming in one or two days of studying.

Top Tip for Exam Preparation

Practice the process. I encourage students to redo practice problems and change the numbers.

I love to read and spend time with my family.  Playing the violin with my daughter, video games with my son, and watching movies with my husband.
