Outstanding EPQ Results for CGA Students in 2024

Participating in the The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is an opportunity for students to dive deep into a subject they are passionate about, while allowing them to develop vital research skills, critical thinking, and academic independence.

For our EPQ students at Crimson Global Academy (CGA), this year has brought exceptional results, while simultaneously gaining them invaluable experience that will serve them well in future academic endeavours.

Celebrating Exceptional EPQ Results at CGA

CGA is proud to celebrate the outstanding success of our students in the EPQ. The qualification is highly regarded by universities for its ability to develop independent research and project management skills, setting students apart in their university applications.

Our top performers include:

Khun S – A*

Sara H – A*

Sauvira V – A

Phiri L – A*

Samuel M – A*

Jake S – A

Paige B – A*

Benny L – A*

These results are a reflection to our students’ commitment and resilience throughout the project, and to the expert guidance and support they've received from their teachers along the way.

The EPQ pushes students to engage deeply with a topic of personal interest, that creates a sense of ownership and accomplishment in their work.

Student Reflections on Their EPQ Journey

Sauvira, who achieved an A, was initially unsure of her ability to succeed:

"I was really shocked at my results as I wasn’t expecting to get an A. I really struggled with this project towards the end and didn’t think it was going to be as good as my peers.

I wanted to do something personal to me and something I would genuinely enjoy learning about. I chose the topics of genetics as it impacts so many individuals on a daily basis specifically those with genetic disorders... this was really eye opening.

Mr Yates was extremely helpful in guiding me through the whole process...I also had help from my biology teacher Dr Robinson who gave me potential topics to explore deeper into for my essay."

Linette, who earned an A*, found the process deeply rewarding:

“I felt a mix of euphoria and reassurance, knowing I had mastered an important skill set for my tertiary studies. I selected my topic based on my career path in software engineering and its potential to address pressing issues like digital inequality. However, I was especially drawn to it because it's a subject that is rarely discussed in our communities.

I have to say that the interactive lessons we had every week, where our mentor regularly encouraged us to think creatively and critically about how to approach our EPQ, greatly helped me adopt a more refined and effective approach to research."

Why Should Students Study the EPQ?

The EPQ offers an opportunity for students to showcase their academic abilities in ways that typical classroom-based assessments cannot. It stands out to universities, particularly those looking for students who have demonstrated the ability to undertake independent research – a critical skill for any degree programme.

"I think the [EPQ] is a great addition for university applications as you learn so many skills that could potentially be useful In your relevant degree and it helps you discover new interest on a deeper level and show you want studying a specific degree may be like." - CGA Student Sauvira

Developing Independence: The EPQ places students in control of their learning. Unlike structured classroom environments, students choose their own topic and research path. This level of independence is highly valued at university.

Mastering Time Management: Completing an EPQ requires planning and self-discipline. Students often juggle their EPQ alongside other academic commitments, making it a real test of their ability to manage deadlines and workloads effectively.

Preparing for University: Many students use their EPQ to explore topics related to their future university course, giving them a head start in terms of background knowledge and research skills. Universities recognise the EPQ as evidence of academic rigour, often taking it into account during the admissions process.
