Making the decision to change your child’s education is never easy. Whether they’re struggling in a traditional classroom and need a more supportive environment, or you're moving overseas and need a flexible learning option, we can help.
Whatever the reason is, Crimson Global Academy's mission is to ensure that the transition to online learning is as seamless and supportive as possible. One of the many benefits of our global online platform is that our learning pathways and multiple calendars accommodate applications throughout the year - in comparison to traditional schools.
In this blog, we breakdown how to 'transfer' to online learning, including important deadlines and how to prepare.
How fast can I transfer?
We often receive this question from families who need to quickly transfer mid-year and are running out of options.
The good news is that CGA accepts rolling applications throughout the year. This is possible because we have multiple calendars each with their own start and end dates, combined with a range of educational pathways. Flexible learning is an essential part of what makes CGA so unique.
Each calendar has its own late joining deadlines and processes. The Aoraki calendar suits learners in the southern hemisphere, running four terms starting in February and ending in December. Our Greenwich and US Calendars better suit northern hemisphere learners, running for three terms from September to May of the following year.
Your eligibility also depends on which curriculum you choose: Pre-IGCSE, IGCSE, A Levels, US Diploma, or APs.
Unsure which calendar or learning pathway works best for your family? Discuss your options with an academic advisor.
The deadline for transfer in Term 1 is February 28th 2025. This applies to all classes and learning pathways.
After this deadline, learners can still apply for Term 2, on the condition that they catch up with course content they've missed.
For Pre-International GSCEs learners, revision guides and extra resources are available to help with independent catch-up. At the next stage, International GCSE learners are recommended extra classes to help get them up to speed. The Da Vinci programme is ideal to help catch up with learning they've missed through personalised 1:1 instruction.
Transfers beyond Term 2 are handled on a case-by-case basis. In many cases, it may be more beneficial for learners to explore September pathway courses or support through the Da Vinci programme rather than sitting exams unprepared.
Lastly, applications for late transfers into AS Level pathways are also evaluated individually. At this stage of advanced learning it becomes more challenging to catch up with course content, as gaps in foundational knowledge can significantly impact success. We therefore give preference to learners coming from strong academic backgrounds.
The Greenwich 2024-2025 calendar commenced in September 2024. The final deadline for late applications in Term 1 is 30 September. This applies to all classes and learning pathways.
After the September deadline learners can still apply, but the process and deadlines differ according to the programme:
The Greenwich calendar ensures a smooth transition by guiding learners to catch up through class recordings, completing missed classwork, and staying on top of homework assignments.
The US 2024-2025 calendar commenced in September 2024. For late application learners opting to study in live group classes, the deadline for the US October 7th.
For those taking AP classes through the Da Vinci programme, late application in Term 1 is available until the first week of December to ensure learners have enough time to prepare for their exams.
Beyond Term 1, learners can apply on a rolling basis and their admissions application will be assessed by the academic team.
For both Greenwich and the US, Term 1 transfer deadlines for the upcoming 2025-2026 calendar will be released once class timetables are confirmed later this year.
